Prof. Dr. Laurent Juillard: Measuring intracellular phosphate and ATP depletion in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis

Created on 20/04/2023 12:00

Watch Prof. Dr. Laurent Juillard talk about measuring intracellular phosphate and ATP depletion in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis

Phosphate removal by haemodialysis is characterized by a plateau in serum phosphorus despite constant dialytic phosphate removal. The source of this refilling effect has been an object of speculation for decades. Recently, Prof. Juillard's studies in animals and HD patients have allowed him and his team not only to measure the course of intracellular phosphate and ATP levels during dialysis, but also to identify the source of phosphate refilling and the underlying reason of post-dialysis fatigue.
